Ingredients:

For the Uttapam Batter:

  • 2 cups rice (idli rice or regular rice)
  • 1 cup urad dal (black gram)
  • 1/2 cup poha (flattened rice)
  • Salt to taste
  • Water for soaking

For the Toppings:

  • Finely chopped onions
  • Sliced tomatoes
  • Chopped bell peppers (colorful mix)
  • Grated carrots
  • Chopped cilantro
  • Green chilies, finely chopped (optional)

For the Grill:

  • Grill product of your choice (electric grill or outdoor grill with a flat surface)
  • Cooking spray or oil for greasing

Instructions:

1. Prepare the Uttapam Batter:

  • Rinse the rice, urad dal, and poha separately and soak them in water for 4-6 hours or overnight.
  • Grind them into a smooth batter, adding water as needed.
  • Ferment the batter for 8-12 hours until it doubles in volume.
  • Add salt to taste and mix well.

2. Preheat the Grill:

  • Preheat your grill to medium-high heat. Ensure the surface is well-greased to prevent sticking.

3. Pour Uttapam Batter on the Grill:

  • Ladle the Uttapam batter onto the preheated grill, spreading it evenly to create a circular shape. The grill will impart a delightful smokiness to the Uttapam.

4. Add Toppings:

  • Sprinkle a generous amount of finely chopped onions, sliced tomatoes, bell peppers, grated carrots, chopped cilantro, and green chilies (if desired) onto the Uttapam.

5. Grill to Perfection:

  • Close the grill lid and let the Uttapam cook for 5-7 minutes or until the edges turn golden brown and the toppings are grilled to perfection.

6. Flip and Grill the Other Side:

  • Carefully flip the Uttapam using a spatula. Grill the other side until it achieves a beautiful golden color.

7. Serve Hot:

  • Remove the Grilled Uttapam from the grill and serve hot with your favorite chutney or sambar.

8. Experiment with Grill Marks:

  • For an artistic touch, experiment with different grill marks by rotating the Uttapam during cooking.

Conclusion: Experience the magic of Grilled Uttapam, a delightful twist on a traditional South Indian favorite. The infusion of smoky grill flavors takes this classic dish to new heights, offering a unique breakfast or brunch option that will leave your taste buds craving more. Elevate your culinary adventures with the versatility of a grill product, turning every meal into a sensational celebration of flavors.
